Greenhouse gas emission analysis for heated pavement system

چکیده
Anthropogenic greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions have become significant environmental indicators in analyzing the comparative environmental impacts of conventional and newly developed alternative systems or techniques. Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) is considered an accepted and systematic methodology to calculate the amount of carbon released from all the processes of a system/technique, helping users select the best environmental-friendly alternative. The use of automated heating based snow removal systems is gaining attention as an alternative strategy to traditional ice and snow removal practices such as the use of anti-icing chemicals and snowplowing vehicles. Most previous studies on heated pavement systems have focused on their efficiency and economic evaluation, but few studies have investigated their environmental impacts in a systematic manner. Considering the energy consumptions associated with heated pavement systems, their environmental impacts should be assessed over the life cycle before they could be implemented in airport pavement applications. This study employs a partial LCA methodology to assess the GHG emissions from various operations of energy sources used in geothermal heated pavement systems and their environmental impacts in contrast with traditional snow removal operations, Detailed discussions are presented in the context of developing an environment assessment framework to help users select the most environmentalfriendly snow removal system. The Greenhouse Gas Emission from Portland Cement Concrete Pavement Construction in China
This study proposes an inventory analysis method to evaluate the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from Portland cement concrete pavement construction, based on a case project in the west of China. The concrete pavement construction process was divided into three phases, namely raw material production, concrete manufacture and pavement onsite construction. The GHG emissions of the three phases are...
متن کاملGreenhouse Gas Emissions from Asphalt Pavement Construction: A Case Study in China
In China, the construction of asphalt pavement has a significant impact on the environment, and energy use and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from asphalt pavement construction have been receiving increasing attention in recent years. At present, there is no universal criterion for the evaluation of GHG emissions in asphalt pavement construction. This paper proposes to define the system boundar...
متن کاملAnalysis of Greenhouse Gas Emission to Effective Stimuli in Iran's Manufacturing Sector, Using LMDI Method, During the Years 1999 to 2019
Greenhouse gas (GHG) emission due to the fossil fuels combustion in the world's manufacturing industries with a share of 30% of emission is considered as one of the important potentials for GHG emission reduction. In this study, using the logarithmic mean of Division index (LMDI) method, in combination with Kaya model, the factors affecting the emissions of Iranian manufacturing industries, inc...
متن کاملEnergy Consumption and Greenhouse Gas Emissions of High Rap Central Plant Hot Recycling Technology Using Life Cycle Assessment:case Study
Traditional LCA of central plant hot recycling shows that, the higher RAP added, the less energy consumed. This conclusion is mainly based on the calculation of reduced raw material. However, when the content of Reclaimed asphalt pavement mixture (RAP) reaches some level, it is needed to take measures such as using additive or improved construction method for maintain the performance of asphalt...
متن کاملComparison of energy consumption and greenhouse gas emission footprint caused by agricultural products in greenhouses and open field in Iran
Decisions can be taken to increase energy efficiency and to mitigate the emissions to the environment by examining the energy audit and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions footprint of crop production in different ways and in different regions, with comparable principles. In this study, energy consumption and energy indices of tomatoes production in four regions of Iran including East Azerbaijan...
